Accounts, 1800-1808.

These papers contain (b) account book of George Steptoe Washington, Jefferson County, Va., 1 January - 25 April 1800; 24 September 1801 - 3 May 1802; September, October, December, 1802; March, September, 1803; July - September, 1805; January, November, 1806; March, 1807; January, 1808; and (c) accounts of George Steptoe Washington, Jefferson County, 1 January 1800 - 27 January 1801. Interspersed with the business entries are narrative reports dealing with the estate of George Washington. A detailed account of various meetings of the executors is given, along with certain estate holdings and plans. Early in 1800 President John Adams directed that on February 22, George Washington's birthday, funeral honors in memory of Washington be held at the different military stations. George S. Washington describes such a procession held, presumably, at Harper's Ferry. See Prussing's, The Estate of George Washington, Deceased, 1927, for further data on Washington's activities as executor.
